Meet Erin and Elise Pope - the dynamic Directors of Pope Housing and Construction
Erin Pope – Managing Director
Erin project and quality manages all our projects, big or small. He is a trade qualified builder, licensed building practitioner (LBP) and registered NZ Certified Builder. Erin alone has more than 28 years of experience in the building industry. Erin personally meets all new clients. He goes the extra mile to ensure he ''really'' gets a feel for what a client wants.
Growing up on Waiheke Island and starting his building career there, Erin has experience in building single and multi-storied architectural homes of all sizes, in tricky to get to places, to steep slopes. He has also spent a number of years living and building in the UK.
When Erin is not working he enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends. Erin appreciates the outdoors enjoying the beautiful lakes on his jet ski and regular holidays to the beach. Erin has a passion for deer hunting and has experienced some real kiwi bush adventures. He enjoys playing sports, he plays squash regularly and has also dusted off his soccer boots and is enjoying playing in weekend competitions.
Erin is a positive role model ensuring that within the team there is strong communication, building a rapport and encouraging good team work and collaboration. Supporting the team to be the best that they can be is essential. Erin ensures that all customer’s individual needs are met, building with integrity, being customer focused and providing quality support to develop the best solutions and working with them to create the home they will love to live in.
Elise Pope – Managing Director
Elise assists with project and quality management, day to day administrative functions, accounts and health and safety. Elise attended Waikato University in 1994 -1996 and has a degree in nursing. Elise has worked in the building industry and nursing for a number of years, enjoying her role as a Public Health Nurse a couple of days a week.
Elise enjoys socialising with family and friends, spending time at the beach, camping trips and spending time exploring the local forests and lakes. Elise’s strong focus with the business is to ensure at Pope Housing and Construction we have a supportive and happy team whose health and wellbeing are always a priority.
Lee-Anne McCann – Office Administrator
Lee-Anne joined the Pope Housing and Construction team in March 2022. Assisting with the administrative needs of the business. She has worked in many different industries and brings with her a wealth of experience having worked in administration for over 30 years in New Zealand and overseas.
Lee-Anne and her family relocated to Rotorua from Taumarunui in 2016. She loves venturing out to enjoy the beautiful lakes and forests with husband Layton, and children, Corey and Madison. Lee-Anne enjoys socialising with family and friends and really appreciates meeting new people. She has taken a liking to mountain biking since living in Rotorua and adores the forest, whether it be running, walking or biking. She loves all sports and really enjoys being involved in the children's sporting activities.
The Coromandel is also a place that Lee-Anne visits frequently and enjoys spending extended family time at the family beach pad. Lee-Anne's administrative knowledge and expertise is valuable to our team.
Layton joined our team in 2016 after working in the construction industry in the King Country for many years. His experience in both the building and joinery industry are a great asset to our company and his expertise is valued immensely. He proves his worth continuously! Layton's personable nature is another of his great attributes allowing him to build great rapport with our clients while they are on their 'building' journey.
Layton enjoys anything outdoors, a keen hunter and fisherman. Likes to take his family out to explore the mountain bike tracks locally and afar. Since moving to the lakes Layton likes to head out on his paddle board exploring. He is also a keen Golfer and has played in a few golf tournaments over the years, this sets a very high standard at the Pope Housing and Construction team Golf games.
Joseph McKenna - Site Foreman. Experienced Trade Qualified Builder. Licenced Building Practitioner.
We were fortunate enough to recruit Joe in early 2021! He has been in the building industry for a number of years, mostly as a sole contractor. Joe loves being part of a team that can support each other and can carefully plan and execute a project from start to finish. Joe relocated from Wellington to Rotorua with his wife and four children.
Joe’s family and loved ones are at the core of his priorities. Providing for his family is paramount to him. Joe enjoys anything to do with the sea and bush, he appreciates been able to dive and hunt to provide the lovely food that comes from this experience. We are delighted to have Joe onboard as part of the Pope Housing and Construction Team and we truly value his knowledge and experience.
Dan Clapperton – Site Foreman. Experienced Trade Qualified Builder. Licensed Building Practitioner.
We were stoked to have Dan join the Pope Housing and Construction team in January 2023. Dan is trade qualified and a licensed building practitioner (LBP) and brings with him 17 years of experience in the building trade, predominantly in high end architectural residential builds and renovation.
Growing up West Auckland, he decided to relocate to Rotorua in 2017 with his family. He married his high school sweetheart 12 years ago and has two primary school aged children that are his world. In Dan's spare time he enjoys mountain biking and exploring the Whakarewarewa Forest with the family, enjoying trips to the bay beaches in the summer months and has recently purchased a small boat to enjoy the swimming and exploring around the local lakes to take in more of the amazing place that they now call home.
A keen snowboarder, Dan has done a few seasons on Mt Ruapehu over the years gone by, also completing a year as a Lift Operator (Liftie) at a ski resort in Canada in 2010. Music is another one of Dan's interests, enjoying 80's classics and rock ballads. He also loves a good movie, being an action, thriller or comedy. Sport is another one of his interests and always enjoys a good All Blacks, Black Caps or Warriors game with a good craft beer and charcoal BBQ.
Dan loves a good coffee........makes the world go around! Dan brings an exceptional skill set to our team and delivers a high level of workmanship. We are thrilled to have Dan join the Pope Housing and Construction team!
Ed Iraia-Timu - Site Foreman. Experienced Trade Qualified Builder.
Ed commenced his employment with Pope Housing and Construction in May 2023. An experienced qualified builder for seven years. Growing up in Napier, Hawkes Bay, he started his building career in 2012 and studied Carpentry at the Eastern Institute of Technology and finished his apprenticeship in June 2016. He has mainly worked on speculated new home builds and is looking forward to the diversity of projects that Pope Housing and Construction provides. Ed really enjoys the different places that he visits when working on various projects.
When Ed is not working, he enjoys Jiu jitsu, a form of Martial Arts that doesn't involve hitting or kicking and takes a lot of strength and agility to combat. Since relocating to Rotorua from the Hawkes Bay in February 2023 he enjoys walking the dogs in the Redwoods and has really enjoyed the different tracks around Rotorua.
Ed decided that he wanted a change of scenery, and to be closer to family and made the decision to relocate to Rotorua. With the knowledge and experience that Ed brings, we are thrilled that he has joined the Pope Housing and Construction team!
Dale Robinson - Adult Apprentice.
Dale started with Pope Housing and Construction in January 2021, after working in data and communications and gained some experience working for an aluminium joinery company in the Canterbury region. Dale was keen for a change and relocated back to Rotorua after spending several years in Christchurch. Dale loves working outdoors and enjoys hands on work and has always had an interest in the building industry and is now in the third year of his building apprenticeship. Dale enjoys cooking when he is at home and he likes listening to music to relax. Dale is a real outdoors man and really appreciates been around nature. Dale is a positive and energetic member of our Pope Housing and Construction team!
Joe Flight - Adult Apprentice
Joe started with Pope Housing and Construction on a casual basis in June 2023, to see whether building was going to be for him. In October 2023, Joe signed up and is now an apprentice builder. A massive career change for Joe, who for the last four years or so has been in a finance role as a lender for a finance company and a bank. He has also attended the Navy as a Weapons Technician.
The reason for Joe’s career change to pursue building is due to having been through the process of observing his own home being built and becoming inspired by the process, along with having a general interest in both building and repairs.
An Auckland born lad, his family moved to Rotorua when he was two and completed schooling here in Rotorua and attended Waikato University and completed a Bachelor in Business.
Outside of work, Joe likes to keep active. He enjoys a game of footy, playing competitive soccer on the weekends for Waiariki Football Club and loves getting out and experiencing the wonderful outdoors in and around Rotorua with his mountain bike, snowboard and kayak. Joe also enjoys running the tracks in our beautiful redwood forest.
We are pleased to have Joe join our team. We are excited to see his development as he learns the building trade.
Callum McIvor – Apprentice
Callum joined the Pope Housing and Construction team in September 2023 after relocating from Tauranga. Callum started his building apprenticeship in February 2021, after completing his NZCA Level 1 and 2 with merit at Otumoetai College. Callum is a third year apprentice and has signed up to complete his building apprenticeship with us.
He decided to make the move over the hill and continue his building journey and live with his mates here in Rotorua. His favourite part of building is the challenge and the diversity of it and how you are always doing something different every day and you also get to enjoy different locations and scenery.
Outside of work Callum is a car enthusiast and really enjoys attending car meets and spending time with his mates. He is also known to attend a mountain bike track or two!
We are thrilled to have Callum join our team and we are a looking forward to seeing him progress in becoming a qualified builder with us!
Cole Sayers – Apprentice
Cole is our newest team member, starting in January 2024. At the age of 17, Cole was lucky enough to gain experience in the building industry during the school holidays and loved it so much the following year managed to obtain a building apprenticeship and signed up to BCITO. Cole joins us to continue his building apprenticeship and is now a second year apprentice. He loves the satisfaction of seeing the building process, from where the building project started to seeing the finished product, gives him a great sense of achievement. Cole is a born and bred Rotorua lad and loves what Rotorua and the surrounding areas has to offer.
Outside of work, Cole is a keen rugby league player and coach, coaching the Under 17’s team in his Pikiao Rugby League Club.
It is awesome to have Cole join our Pope Housing and Construction team and we look forward to seeing his progress and working towards becoming a qualified builder.

Supporting local community clubs, teams and events

We currently sponsor the Rotorua Commercial Travellers association and very recently we sponsored the John Paul College first XI girls football team to compete in the national secondary schools tournament.
